Crime Lab Assistance Program (CLAP)
The Crime Laboratory Assistance Program (CLAP) was created within the Director's Office of Department of Public Safety pursuant to 650.105 RSMo. Funds are collected pursuant to 488.029 RSMo and deposited into the State Laboratory Forensic Account. The purpose of this program is to make state financial assistance available to defray the operational costs incurred by crime laboratories, which make analysis of controlled substances in criminal court cases. CLAP funds may be used for personnel, travel, equipment, supplies and operational expenses, and contractual agreements.
Funds come from General Revenue and are subject to appropriation from year-to-year. (There is currently no funding for the CLAP Program.)
Missouri Crime Lab Upgrade Program
The Missouri Crime Laboratory Upgrade Program (MCLUP) was created pursuant to Section 650.105 RSMo and utilizes funds from the State Forensic Laboratory Account. The goal of the MCLUP Program is to provide financial assistance to defray expenses of crime laboratories.
