 <title>DHS ANNOUNCES GUIDANCE FOR MORE THAN $500 MILLION IN PREPAREDNESS GRANTS UNDER THE AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT</title>

 <description>WASHINGTON-The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today released
application guidance for more than $500 million in Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) preparedness grants for fire station
construction, port and transit security-funded by the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
"These Recovery Act funds will strengthen our economy while improving
our ability to prepare for terrorist attacks, major disasters and other
emergencies," said DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. "The grants announced
today will go directly to local projects, revitalizing communities while
updating our nation's infrastructure and enhancing our security."

Save the Date: Come join the Region H Homeland Security Oversight Committee, Monday, August 10, 2009 at Third Annual Safe School Summit.  We would like to have as many teachers, administrators, board members and public safety officials as possible attend. 

Lunch and nutritional breaks are included and as in past years the event is free of charge.   We are applying for professional development and POST hours for the event.  Topics of interest this year include an overview of all hazards emergency planning for schools, what to do when your schools active shooter program fails, a case study of MWSUs Griffon Alert system, a case study of the test of a school disaster plan, lessons learned at the Enterprise Alabama high school tornado incident, a live demonstration of the Missouri ERIP computer system for school safety.
