State Supervisor Warns of Increased
Underage Drinking During May Celebrations
ATC agents trained over 143 servers yesterday
in Camden County
JEFFERSON CITY, May 17, 2007-May marks the graduation
season, a time when students around the state will celebrate their
academic accomplishments.
This celebration can be overshadowed by the increased
risks of underage drinking. State Supervisor for Alcohol and Tobacco
Control (ATC) Pete Lobdell encourages servers, communities and parents
to help combat underage drinking during the commemorative month.
“Parents and communities can assist law enforcement
by discussing the risks of underage drinking with those underage,”
Lobdell said. “Illegal alcohol consumption can lead to increased
chances of traffic accidents and other incidents that could ruin an
otherwise wonderful milestone in a young person’s life.”
In an attempt to prevent underage drinking, ATC offers
regular training for servers teaching them how to identify fake identification.
Yesterday, ATC agents trained over 143 servers in Camden County. Servers
are trained on how to detect slight imperfections in a created or
altered false identification card such as size and thickness of the
card or misplaced typeface.
Any person under the age of 21 convicted of purchasing
or consuming alcohol or any server found to have served a minor may
face up to $1,000 and/or a one year jail sentence.
