Capitol Police Officer Awarded
Investigator of the Year
JEFFERSON CITY, May 29, 2007-Chief of Capitol Police
Todd Hurt announces the recognition of Sergeant Brian Kempker by the
Missouri State Investigators Association (MSIA).
“This is a great honor for Sergeant Kempker,”
Hurt said. “His keen attention helped to correctly access the
magnitude of the investigation. We are fortunate to have such dedicated
officers to ensure that our Capitol remains secure.”
Sergeant Kempker was a key player in the joint operation
between the U.S. Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) and state
law enforcement which lead to the detainment of dozens of suspected
illegal immigrants in March. Kempker carefully inspected employer
documentation on the suspects in question to determine if they were
falsified papers. Gov. Blunt cancelled the state's contract with Sam’s
Janitorial Services who hired illegal workers and ordered state agencies
to enact a no tolerance policy through tough new contract protections
dozens of suspected illegal immigrants working under falsified documents.
In order to be considered for the award, nominated investigators
had to meet various criteria including providing professional and
innovative investigative services to the citizens of Missouri, as
well as demonstrating effectiveness as an individual and within a
team to exceed expectations set by their department or agency.
The MSIA is professional organization which encourages
the exchange of inter-agency
information and provides continuing educational opportunities for
governmental personnel engaged in investigative work.
