State Fire Marshal Keynotes Firefighter Graduation

JEFFERSON CITY, May 17, 2007-State Fire Marshal Randy Cole presented the keynote address at tonight’s Columbia Recruit Firefighter Graduation. Cole spoke on the importance of skillfully trained firefighters in protecting the public and the great responsibility of being an emergency responder in today’s world.

“It is a privilege to speak at this ceremony which honors the hard work of these graduates,” Cole said. “These brave men and women are about to enter into an extremely courageous and noble field.”

The graduation marks the completion of an 11 week course for 11 graduates. The graduates consist of six individuals from the Columbia Fire Department, three from the Hannibal Fire Department and two from the Jefferson City Fire Department.

During their training, which began on March 5, graduates have learned advanced firefighting and life safety techniques including fire suppression and incident command systems. The graduates are now state and internationally certified at Firefighter I & II and HazMat Awareness and Operations level.
