Capitol Police Gear up for
Fourth of July Celebration on Capitol Grounds
JEFFERSON CITY, July 2, 2007-As Fourth of July festivities
begin to take shape, Capitol Police offer tips to ensure those visiting
the Capitol over the holiday enjoy a safe and memorable day.
Thousands of Missourians will travel to the state Capitol
for the annual Salute to America to commemorate our Nation's birthday
with a fireworks show, concerts, a parade through downtown Jefferson
City and carnival rides and food. The celebration begins Tuesday evening
July 3rd and ends Wednesday July 4th.
"Our primary concern remains the safety and security
of our citizens. While Missourians celebrate our beautiful heritage
and display their patriotic spirit, as Chief of Capitol Police I urge
all those attending the festivities to take the appropriate precautions
to have a safe celebration of our nation's birthday," said Todd
Hurt.
Safety tips:
*If you bring children to the festivities ensure they
know to stay near their adult supervisor at all times. If a child
does get separated they should know to find the nearest law enforcement
officer and ask for assistance.
*Keep your personal belongings with you at all times. Do not lay them
down to reserve your spot or they may be stolen.
* Ask Capitol Police officers any questions or concerns you may have.
They will be patrolling the Capitol grounds throughout the event.
*Heat related emergencies are the most common emergency during this
event. Make sure to drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages.
*Keep in mind that infants can easily become dehydrated in mid-day
heat, consider bringing infant to the event later in the afternoon
or evening as the day gets cooler.
