Governor Blunt Highlights Public
Safety Commitment during State of State Address
JEFFERSON CITY, January 25, 2007-Director of Public
Safety Mark James applauded Gov. Matt Blunt’s anti-crime proposals
outlined during the annual State of the State address last night.
James, a 28-year law enforcement veteran, believes Missourians
are fortunate to have a governor with a military background focused
on protecting Missourians most vulnerable citizens.
“Governor Blunt demonstrated last night he is
poised to battle sex offenders and cop killers who victimize Missouri
communities,” James said. “I am pleased with Governor
Blunt’s unwavering support for our law enforcement professionals
who give tirelessly and selflessly of themselves everyday ridding
our neighborhoods of these predators.”
Blunt recommend a half million dollar increase to support
the Multi-jurisdictional Internet Cyber Crimes Task Forces to protect
children from cyber predators and called for mandatory death sentencing
for criminals who are convicted of killing law enforcement officers.
Last legislative session, Blunt was successful in getting
the General Assembly to answer his call to enact a “Jessica’s
Law” in Missouri to ensure sexual predators receive tough mandatory
sentences for crimes committed against children. Under Blunt’s
leadership the state expanded the sexual offender registry and created
a Cyber Crimes program to distribute funding to support detectives’
salaries, training, and computer forensic personnel who focus on preventing
and controlling Internet cyber crime.
