Owner Adds to Reward in Christian County Fire

JEFFERSON CITY, January 4, 2007- A $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for a fire which destroyed a Christian County home is being offered by the property owner.

State Fire Marshal Randy Cole said that owner Ralph Durham is offering the reward in addition to the $5,000 Missouri Arson Hotline Reward Fund for information that would lead to an arrest. Anyone with information can call the Missouri Arson Hotline at 800-392-7766.

The Billings Fire District responded to the house at 2:47 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, 2007 to find the structure fully involved. The house was considered to be a total loss with damage estimated at over $41,000.

Investigators also found evidence where someone had attempted to break into a barn on the property at the time of the fire. Entry was gained to other barns and outbuildings on the property and it is unknown if any property was removed from the house before the fire.

Cole said that Durham resides in the state of California but the kitchen was being wallpapered and painted by Durham’s granddaughter at the time of the fire.
