Cole Announces $6,250 Arson Prevention Grant

JEFFERSON CITY, February 20, 2007-State Fire Marshal Randy Cole announced today that the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office has received a $6,250 arson prevention grant from FM Global. The grant will be used to buy fire scene diagramming software for the Investigation Unit.

“From an investigative standpoint, scene diagrams are often one of the most useful tools in courtroom presentations. This new software will help us provide a more complete record of investigation activities for use in arson prosecutions,” Cole said.

The grant will allow investigators to provide stronger crime scene evidence by using a software program that will document a visual recollection of various aspects of a scene such as locations of furnishings, victims and other evidence.

Many agencies use the Division of Fire Safety’s investigative reports during follow up investigations and a well-documented diagram can be key to an investigator, judge or jury in understanding the layout of a location involved in a crime scene.

The grant was provided by FM Global, a leading property insurer of businesses worldwide, which works with organizations to help prevent damage to properties from fire, theft or natural disaster.
