James Encourages Response Community
to Attend Foreign Animal Disease Class
JEFFERSON CITY, April 25, 2007-Director of Public Safety
Mark James invites Missouri's first responder, agriculture and public
health communities to attend a free Foreign Animal Disease Class funded
by a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“First responders must be vigilant in preparing
for a multitude of emergencies including animal-borne diseases that
if introduced into our livestock could have long-lasting effects,”
James said.
The course focuses on best practices and safety issues
in the event of an outbreak and will provide responders guidance for
an effective and rapid response. Participants can expect to learn
the importance of preparing for a potential outbreak, prevention,
and containment as well as an opportunity to understand how all levels
of government will coordinate a response to the outbreak.
MU Fire & Rescue Training Institute and the State
Emergency Management Agency (SEMA,) are offering the free Foreign
Animal Zootonic Disease class on April 26 at the Holiday Inn Executive
