Capitol Police Adopts New Strategy
Against Parking Violators
JEFFERSON CITY, September 14, 2006-Beginning this month,
the Missouri Capitol Police will be using vehicle immobilizers, also
known as parking boots, to deter illegal parking at the Capitol complex.
“We have taken an innovative approach to address
double parking, parking in crosswalks and parking in unassigned spots
at the Capitol complex to ensure people are not getting the luxury
of private parking for $25 a week, said Capitol Police Chief Todd
Hurt. “Booting makes an immediate impact when ticketing is not
enough.”
A parking tickets costs $5 for those who choose to ignore
parking regulations around the Capitol. The boots are placed around
the tire of a car making it immobile and will be used in situations
where an individual has more than five unpaid parking tickets. Once
the boot is applied the vehicle owner will have to provide a letter
from the Court Clerk stating that all tickets have been paid before
the device is removed.
