Missouri Awarded over $2 Million in Homeland Security Funds to Protect Critical Infrastructure

JEFFERSON CITY, September 26, 2006-Department of Public Safety Director Mark James announced Missouri will receive $2,060,920 in U.S. Homeland Security funds to protect Missouri transportation systems.

“The U.S Department of Homeland Security grant program recognizes the unique characteristics of Missouri’s critical facilities, infrastructure, and urban transit systems and these funds will help local officials continue to safeguard Missourians from possible threats or attacks,” James said.

These awards are part of the Infrastructure Protection Program (IPP), which are comprised of seven programs that constitute major critical infrastructure sectors. Today’s announcement provides awards to three competitive grant programs: the Port Security Grant Program,
the Transit Security Grant Program, and the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program.

Missouri was awarded:
· $756,000 for Buffer Zone Protection in selected Missouri cities and critical facilities.
· $1,154,920 for Transit Security for rail and bus systems in St. Louis.
· $150,000 for Port Security in St. Louis.

Since the IPP began in 2002, Missouri has received $5,491,984 from the program.
