Missouri Awarded over $2 Million
in Homeland Security Funds to Protect Critical Infrastructure
JEFFERSON CITY, September 26, 2006-Department of Public
Safety Director Mark James announced Missouri will receive $2,060,920
in U.S. Homeland Security funds to protect Missouri transportation
systems.
“The U.S Department of Homeland Security grant
program recognizes the unique characteristics of Missouri’s
critical facilities, infrastructure, and urban transit systems and
these funds will help local officials continue to safeguard Missourians
from possible threats or attacks,” James said.
These awards are part of the Infrastructure Protection
Program (IPP), which are comprised of seven programs that constitute
major critical infrastructure sectors. Today’s announcement
provides awards to three competitive grant programs: the Port Security
Grant Program,
the Transit Security Grant Program, and the Intercity Bus Security
Grant Program.
Missouri was awarded:
· $756,000 for Buffer Zone Protection in selected Missouri
cities and critical facilities.
· $1,154,920 for Transit Security for rail and bus systems
in St. Louis.
· $150,000 for Port Security in St. Louis.
Since the IPP began in 2002, Missouri has received
$5,491,984 from the program.
