James Announces Homeland Defense Equipment Program Open to First Responders

JEFFERSON CITY, October 3, 2006-Mark James, Director of Public Safety announced the Homeland Defense Equipment Reuse (HDER) Program is available to emergency responder agencies to enhance their homeland security preparedness capabilities.

The program provides surplus radiological detection instrumentation and other equipment, as well as training and long-term technical support to first responder agencies that apply for the grant.

“This program assists responders in the proper operation and maintenance of their radiological, chemical, and biological detection and response equipment by providing detailed technical information and hands-on equipment operation and maintenance training,” James said.

Through the HDER program, responder agencies across Missouri now have access to a substantial inventory of radiological detection instrumentation and other equipment that is no longer required by the Federal government. This equipment is rehabilitated and provided at no cost to the recipient.

This grant is open to all first responders. The website to access the list of equipment is http://www.rkb.mipt.org Please send your list by mail, fax or email to SEMA, as soon as possible. SEMA must submit orders before Dec. 1, 2006. First responders may contact Brian Ingram at 573-526-9227, or email: Brian.Ingram@sema.dps.mo.gov.
