State Fire Marshal Announces All Hazard Incident Management Team Training

JEFFERSON CITY, October 5, 2006—Since Monday, nearly 40 command/management level fire, law enforcement, emergency management, public health and emergency medical service personnel from various areas of the state, have undergone intensive training in Jefferson City, which will continue through Sunday.

“Those attending the seven day course have already shown the commitment necessary to establish a team simply by attending such a lengthy intense course,” said State Fire Marshal Randy Cole. “These individuals realize how a well trained, effective incident management team can positively affect a community when they arrive to assist with a major incident.”

The United State Fire Administration course, All Hazard Incident Management Team (AHIMT), is designed to train individuals to perform as members of a state level incident management team. The purpose of establishing a team is to train a group of command level personnel from various disciplines which can be used as a local or state resource in the event of a large or complex incident. The team’s main function is to provide management and recovery assistance for such an incident. Incidents may involve natural disasters, large fire incidents, building collapse, or large area power outage situations.

This training is part of Missouri's ongoing efforts to enhance state homeland security initiatives. Federal homeland security funding are being used to support these training courses with coordination from the State Emergency Management Agency, Missouri’s Office of Homeland Security and University of Missouri Fire & Rescue Training Institute. The seven-day course is the first of three that will be conducted in Missouri, with the other locations being in St. Louis and Kansas City.
