Blunt Announces Homeland Security
Grants for 30 Citizen Corps Councils
JEFFERSON CITY, July 18, 2006-Gov. Blunt today announced
FY05 Homeland Security grants totaling $199,000 will support 30 local
Citizen Councils. The councils are grassroots volunteer organizations
that help their local communities prepare for disasters.
“Citizen Corps Councils are comprised of Missourians
dedicated to helping their fellow citizens prepare for natural disasters
or possible terrorist attacks,” Blunt said. “These everyday
heroes deserve our thanks and appreciation for the outstanding work
they accomplish on limited budgets. I am pleased these grants will
help them continue to help keep Missouri prepared and ready to respond
to any crisis.”
The Citizen Corps Councils receiving FY05 grant awards
are: Bollinger County, Camden County, Cape Girardeau Fire Department,
Chesterfield, Christian County, Clay County, Cole County, Columbia,
Douglas County, Ferguson Police Department, Festus, Gladstone, Greene
County, Hazelwood, Independence Fire Department, Joplin/Jasper County
Emergency Management, Kirksville Fire Department, Kirkwood, Manchester,
Marion County, Meramac Valley Citizen Corps Council, Miller County
Citizen Council, Perry County Health Department, Phelps County, Polk
County Emergency Management, Portageville, Rock Community Fire Department,
Scott County Emergency Management, Stoddard County Citizen Corps,
and Willard.
Citizen Corps Councils support five programs including:
Medical Reserve Corps, Fire Corps, Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT), Volunteers In Police Service, and Neighborhood Watch. Missouri
currently has six Medical Reserve Corps units and over 100 Citizen
Emergency Response Teams (CERT).
