Blunt Announces $426,467 Grant
Awarded to Help Protect Domestic Violence Victims
JEFFERSON CITY, July 13, 2006-Gov. Matt Blunt today
announced the Department of Public Safety received $426,467 in a federal
grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to enhance services provided
to victims of domestic violence who are granted protection orders
against their abusers.
“I am pleased Missouri is being awarded this money
to ensure crime victims are treated with fairness, dignity and respect
and I commend the Department of Public Safety for their aggressive
efforts to secure federal dollars,” Blunt said.
The grant will be used to develop a protective order
notification service. It will allow victims to be notified immediately
when a protective order has been served, when court hearings are scheduled,
when amendments are filed, and when the order is about to expire.
In 2003, Missouri launched a statewide victim notification
system called Missouri Victim Automated Notification System (MoVANS).
This system allows Missourians to be automatically notified about
changes in custody status of offenders or upcoming court proceedings.
