Cole Encourages Local Fire
Departments to Join the “Everyone Goes Home” Program
JEFFERSON CITY, July 17, 2006-State Fire Marshal Randy
Cole is encouraging Missouri fire departments to incorporate a new
Firefighter Life Safety Resource Kit designed by The National Fallen
Firefighter’s Foundation along with the Firefighter Life Safety
Initiatives Program Team.
“The program contains interviews with over 50
nationally recognized fire service leaders who provide their insight
and views relating to firefighter safety issues,” Cole said.
“This valuable kit is something that could easily be incorporated
into the fire departments in-house training programs.”
Over 30,000 U.S. fire departments will be receiving
the kit as part of the “Everyone Goes Home” program. The
kit is designed to help reduce firefighter line-of-duty deaths through
a video training resource package. Six modules targeting the areas
where most firefighter line-of-duty deaths and injuries occur: health
& wellness, vehicle operations, and live fire training.
Every year nationwide more than 100 firefighters die in the line-of-duty
and 10,000 are seriously injured. Last year, Missouri lost three firefighters
in line-of-duty death situations and approximately 150 were injured.
The U.S. Fire Administration’s goal is to reduce line-of-duty
deaths 25 percent by 2009 and 50 percent by 2014. To reach this goal
the “Everyone Goes Home” program was created and is funded
through the FIRE Act Grant.
