Blunt Seeks Small Business Administration
Assistance for Counties Impacted by Sept. Storms
JEFFERSON CITY, December 7, 2006-Following the Federal
Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) denial of his disaster
request, Gov. Matt Blunt today asked the Small Business Administration
(SBA) to consider a SBA disaster declaration as a result of September
22 severe weather and tornadoes for numerous counties in Missouri.
“We are requesting Small Business Administration
assistance to help private citizens, renters, and businesses recover
from the September 22 tornadoes and severe weather. This request will
provide Missourians with another recovery resource,” Blunt said.
In September, the Joint Damage Assessment Teams (SEMA,
FEMA and the SBA) identified over 600 homes and over 75 businesses
that had storm related damages. If the request is approved, homeowners,
renters and small businesses in the designated counties and the contiguous
counties would be eligible to apply for low-interest loans from the
Small Business Administration.
