DPS Hosts Federal Counterterrorism
Instructor Training
JEFFERSON CITY, August 8, 2006-Director of Public Safety
Mark James announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is conducting
a four-day training in Jefferson City on commercial vehicle enforcement
beginning today.
“The design, development and conduct of quality
training courses relating to antiterrorism, bombs and explosives,
counterterrorism, crisis management, patrol procedures, physical security,
tactical applications and transportation security are prime public
safety missions and valuable to Missouri’s homeland security
efforts,” James said.
The Commercial Vehicle Counterterrorism Instructor Training
Program (CVCITP) conducted by the Federal Law Enforcement Training
Center was developed at the request of the Transportation Security
Administration in October 2005. Several months ago Missouri State
Highway Patrol participated in a training curriculum committee in
Washington D.C. and today’s program is the end result of that
partnership.
The program is designed to meet the needs of law enforcement
officers responsible for the enforcement of commercial vehicles traveling
on the nation’s highways. The CVCITP is unique in its design,
recognizing that security of our highways is accomplished by a cooperative
effort of federal, state, and local officers.
Classroom lecture, reinforced through various training
aids, laboratory exercises, and practical exercise applications ensure
the meaningful learning experiences of the students. The training
incorporates four courses including: introduction to CVCITP, commercial
vehicle awareness, terrorism for CVCITP, and weapons of mass destruction.
