Members of Missouri’s Fire Service Observe Fire/Rescue Day at Capitol

Lt. Gov Peter Kinder to keynote event

JEFFERSON CITY, April 11, 2006-Missouri’s fire service will honor firefighters killed in the line of duty in 2005 during a memorial service at the Capitol Building first floor rotunda, tomorrow, Wednesday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m.

This service is held to honor those firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of their duties. In 2005, Missouri had 3 line of duty deaths; Firefighter Timmy S. Hardy of the Neosho Fire Department, Chief Robert Bestgen of the Osborn Fire Protection District, and Chief Jerry Buehne of the Affton Fire Protection District.

Fire/Rescue Day also serves as a chance for Missouri's fire service personnel to meet their state officials and discuss fire service-related legislation.

WHO: Speakers include: Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, Public Safety Director Mark James, State Fire Marshal Randy Cole, Public Central Jackson Co. Fire Dist. Chief Steve Westermann & Firefighter Cadet Capt. Tiffani Farley.
