Blunt Announces Nearly $700,000 in Local Law Enforcement Grants

JEFFERSON CITY, Dec. 13, 2005-Gov. Matt Blunt today announced nearly $700,000 has been awarded to local law enforcement agencies through the federal Local Law Enforcement Block Grant JAG program (LLEBG/JAG).

Of the 186 law enforcement agencies that applied for funding through their city or county, 110 were chosen to receive the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants for the purpose of reducing crime and improving public safety. Missouri was able to secure $694,826.58 this year. Funds will be used to purchase officer safety equipment such as radios, ballistic vests and items to assist the safe and secure transport of prisoners.

“I am pleased that these funding opportunities are available to assist local law enforcement efforts,” Blunt said.

The program is made available through the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and is administered through the Missouri Department of Public Safety. Agencies may apply for up to $9,000 in assistance. A ten percent cash match of award is required of all agencies.
