Blunt Announces Over $1.3 million
in POST Commission Training Funds to Local Law Enforcement Agencies
JEFFERSON CITY, October 7, 2005-Gov. Matt Blunt announced
today that over 500 local law enforcement agencies around the state
will receive over $1.3 million from the Peace Officer Standards and
Training (POST) Commission Fund.
“Every dollar from the POST Commission Fund will
go directly toward the training of Missouri peace officers and support
staff,” Blunt said. “Training is an essential component
of the policing profession and I am pleased that the state of Missouri
is able to provide a portion of the training funds necessary to assist
our men in women in uniform.”
This fund provides financial assistance to county and
municipal agencies for the training of their law enforcement officers
and personnel. To be eligible for receiving financial assistance from
this fund, the political subdivision must collect an additional $1
of court fees, with these fees being forwarded to the state and credited
to the POST Commission Fund.
Since 1996 when the POST Training Fund was created,
peace officer agency participation has doubled. In 1996 there were
291 participating agencies, whereas this year 599 agencies took part
in the fund.
Some examples of training the POST Fund might finance
include Domestic Violence, Anti-Terrorism, and Child Abuse and Neglect.
