Blunt Announces Missouri Communities
Received Over $18 Million for Pre-Disaster Mitigation Competitive Projects
JEFFERSON CITY, September 14, 2005-Gov. Matt Blunt announced
Missouri received over $18 Million in Pre-Disaster Mitigation Competitive
Grant Awards for 19 Missouri community mitigation projects and four
hazard mitigation plans.
“I congratulate these communities on their innovative
pre-disaster mitigation projects,” Blunt said. “These
projects competed nationally for scare funds. Without the federal
assistance, these projects would cost the communities and state agencies
more than $25 million.”
The federal share is 75 percent of each mitigation project.
Each applicant is responsible for the local match for the project.
The following is a list of communities broken down by project plans.
Successful funded flood buyout projects are:
· Brentwood commercial project
· Houston for an apartment project
Successful safe room projects included School Safe/multipurpose
rooms, a Mobil Home Park, Community Safe Rooms, and Safe Room/Performing
Arts Centers.
School Safe/multipurpose rooms were approved for:
· Junction Hill School
· Pierce City School
· West Plains School
· Willow Springs Middle/High School.
Safe Room in Mobile Home Park in Butler.
Community Safe Rooms approved for:
· Willard
· Clay County Recreation.
The Metro Community College received approval for safe/performing
arts centers for the BTC, Blue River, Penn Valley, Longview, and Maplewood
campuses.
Successful infrastructure projects were:
· Sullivan County Bridge
· Seymour Bridge
· Independence Buried Electric Lines
· Boone County creek Bank Stabilization Project.
Successful planning projects were:
· Mid-America Regional Planning Commission Storm Shelter Annex
to Multi-Jurisdictional HAZMIT Plan
· University of Missouri Rolla’s Hazard Mitigation Plan
· Missouri Hazard Mitigation update plans for the State and
four county Multi-Jurisdictional plans
· Missouri Grant Management for State of Missouri Hazard Mitigation
