PRESS RELEASE

Property of State Departments Recovered at Local Pawnshops

JEFFERSON CITY, May 13, 2005—The Missouri Department of Public Safety’s Capitol Police are investigating the theft of state property. The property, recovered from local pawnshops, is believed to have been stolen by crewmembers of a private moving company servicing state departments.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is one of the departments that have had property stolen. DNR has just relocated to the Lewis and Clark building, and are still in the process of unpacking. DNR employees have reported unpacking boxes, only to find their contents missing.

Capitol Police have arrested two members of the moving company after recovering a laptop computer owned by DNR through the enforcement of a search warrant. However, investigation is still underway, and the Department of Public Safety urges anyone with information regarding the thefts to contact Corp. Kent Walker of the Capitol Police at (573) 751-2764.
