Missouri is awarded funding through the U.S. Department of Justice's Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which replaced the Byrne Formula and the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Formula Programs to create a single funding mechanism that will simplify the administration process for grantees. LLEBG/JAG contracts administered by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Office of the Director, are awarded to law enforcement agencies through their respective city or county unit of government. Short-term contracts are awarded in amounts up to $10,000 (maximum of $9,000 in federal funding with $1,000 or 10% cash match) for purchase of equipment directly related to basic law enforcement functions and officer safety. The goal of this program is to make funds available to units of local government to reduce crime and improve public safety. LLEBG/JAG funding is made available for the purchase of equipment that will enable Missouri Law Enforcement Agencies to meet this goal. Contract Period: January 1 to June 30 Purpose Area: Procuring equipment, technology, and other materials directly related to basic law enforcement functions and officer safety. Examples of eligibile equipment items include, but are not limited to, mobile and portable radios, lightbars, sirens, in-car cages, mobile data terminals, locks, safety vests and protective clothing, bulletproof vests, handcuffs, flashlights, in-car cameras, and trauma kits. LLEBG/JAG Funding: $937,373 for FY 2005; $709,547 for FY 2006; $873,931 for FY 2007 Match Requirement: All LLEBG/JAG recipients must provide a match of 10% of the total project cost in the form of hard cash. Eligible Applicants: Any law enforcement agency through their respective city or county. Application Information: Information about the current application period is made available the end of September. The application deadline for the LLEBG/JAG grant is generally the end of October, and awards are made on or about January 1 of each year. Agencies receiving contracts can expect to receive a check in the amount of their federal award in February. Equipment should not be purchased until these funds are received. |
