We understand that school budgets are strained, but we recommend that educational institutions, at minimal, take steps of secure the school building. Students cannot reach their full potential when they live in fear. Below are links to grant programs that may assist your school with emergency preparedness and security.

Secure Our Schools COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services)- United States Department of Justice - SOS grants help cover the cost of security measures such as the placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other deterrent measures; security assessments; security training for students and personnel; and other measures to significantly increase school security.

Safe Schools - Healthy Students Initiative - United States Department of Education - Grants support LEAs in the development of communitywide approaches to creating safe and drug-free schools and promoting healthy childhood development. Programs are intended to prevent violence and the illegal use of drugs and to promote safety and discipline.
